Warsaw Metro

The article describes construction and current operation of the Warsaw Metro. The construction of the first line of the underground railway started in 1983, but the first part of the line was put into operation as late as in 1995. This part of the line I was 11,3 km long and it had 11 stations. The whole line I has been in operation since 2008 with total length 23,9 km and 22 km. The construction of the line II with total length 33 km is under preparation. Two types of vehicles are used in the Warsaw Metro: trains of the Russian type 81 built by wagon plants in Mytishchi and St. Petersburg; and trains Metropolis built by Alstom’s plants in Barcelona (Spain) and Chorzów (Poland).
